Learning to Fly
A young woman living in Melbourne, Australia, Louise was searching for her calling in life.
On a whim, she attended a dinner at the Lyceum Club, a women's university club in Melbourne with more than 1,000 members. As she sat captivated by the keynote speaker, her future began to unfold before her. Quickly, her next steps become crystal clear:
"I knew what I wanted to do with my life."
The speaker was U.S. Navy Captain, Barbara Bell, who had been invited by the club to talk about her experience flying and climbing the ranks in the male-dominated U.S. Navy. Seeing Louise's passion for aviation and intense drive to succeed, Barbara took Louise under her wing and continues to serve as a mentor to her today. Louise went on to become a commercial pilot, business owner, mother of three and exceptional role model for other young women. In 2011, Louise was named the State of Queensland Young Achiever of the Year.
